What Is The Black Hills Playhouse?

The Black Hills Playhouse is one of the oldest continuously running non-profit theaters in the United States. This stock theater puts together shows every summer in collaboration with the University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts. It was originally constructed in 1933 and officially opened in 1946. It also hosts several educational programs and camps.

When Can You See A Show?

The theater produces four to five shows every summer. Their season extends from June into August. For the 2024 season, you can plan on experiencing The Play That Goes Wrong, The Little Mermaid, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. You can buy your tickets online ahead of your visit, too! In addition, you will need to buy a  Custer State Park Pass to see shows. A temporary 7-day pass is $20.
