Museums are a great way to learn about the local history. When you stay at Rushmore Express, the history on display happens to be a lot of United States history, too, for obvious reasons. But if United States presidential history isn’t what you are looking for, there are other options for you and your family to explore. So jump into history and find an outstanding museum in the Keystone area.

South Dakota State Railroad Museum

Location: 222 Railroad Ave., Building A, Hill City

If you are interested in seeing authentic train memorabilia and interactive exhibits, the South Dakota State Railroad Museum is best. There is a lot of great history here to explore, from the early days of laying tracks through the United States up to understanding how that rails have impacted the world we live in today.

National Presidential Wax Museum

Location: 609 Highway 16A, Keystone

Here you’ll have the opportunity to meet more than 100 wax sculptures, which includes all 45 United States presidents. The museum also includes many recreations of memorable moments in United States history. Furthermore, if you are curious about how to construct these sculptures, the museum features a short video explaining all of the effort and time to make each exhibit.

Black Hills Dinosaur Museum

Location: 8973 US-16, Rapid City

It’s hard to miss this place. There’s a giant orange T-rex standing outside of it on your way to Mount Rushmore. Most of the museum will allow you to see fossils and skeleton replicas up close. There are also recreations of what some of the dinosaurs may have looked like when they were alive.

Keystone Area Historical Museum

Location: 410 3rd St., Keystone

There’s a lot to learn about Keystone and South Dakota. You’ll benefit a bit by learning about the place you’ll be staying at for a while by visiting the Keystone Area Historical Museum.
