If you are staying at the Rushmore Express, chances are you are planning a trip to Mount Rushmore. You’re also going to want to capture the experience at one of America’s most recognizable national monuments. If you look on Instagram, posts on Facebook, or Pinterest, you are going to find a lot of photos of people posing below Mount Rushmore. This list should give you the guidance you need for a picture you can be proud to hang on the wall from your stay at Rushmore Express and also dodge the crowds at Mount Rushmore.

Do This to Get the Best Pictures of Mount Rushmore

  1. Avoid visiting the monument during the day. Lighting can make a regular moment feel magical. You will want to snap your pictures of Mount Rushmore during the “golden hour.” Unfamiliar with the term? It is when the sun is either setting or rising. The sun will shine golden rays of light on the former Presidents’ sculptures and your face as well.
  2. For the most personal experience, you need to walk on some of the trails near the Black Hills surrounding the monument. For example, you can snap a profile shot of George Washington off of Highway 244 or take photos of all the presidents from interesting angles on The Presidential Trail.
  3. To see a truly unique view, get aboard a helicopter tour. Here are a few suggestions; Black Hills Helicopters and Black Hills Aerial Adventures.
  4. If you end up at Grand View Terrace, you need to bring a telephoto lens like most people. Many people don’t know that from Grand View Terrace, the former Presidents’ mugs are far away making them look smaller than you imagine. Snapping a telephoto lens to your camera will allow you to zoom in without losing quality.
  5. In addition to the telephoto lens, throw a tripod in your trunk as you head over to Mount Rushmore. This way, you can rely on a steady image, and you won’t need to worry about blurry pictures of Mount Rushmore with your family.
